Beginning to Low Intermediate
Learning English for Social Purposes has been designed for tertiary students with
beginning to low intermediate proficiency level in the English Language. Its focus is on
developing the oral-aural skills in English for social purposes. Underlying the pedagogy of
the materials is the genre-based approach and the concept of scaffolding.
Based on specific contexts, the materials contain texts and tasks to develop:
listening skills and speaking skills
cultural and social awareness of language
reading and writing skills
mastery of language structures and vocabulary relevant to the contexts focused
upon.
