Articles from the International Herald Tribune provide
a framework for improving reading and language skills
while helping users become independent, critical readers of
newspapers.
Items are grouped in sections: News, Opinion, Business,
Profiles, Arts/Entertainment, Science/Health, and Sports.
Articles are accompanied by activities such as: Getting the
Message, Expanding Your Vocabulary, Working with Idioms,
Analyzing Style and Tone, and Talking and Writing.
A “Focus on the Newspaper” unit presents the style and
conventions of journalistic writing and introduces strategies
for analyzing articles. Photos, graphs, and illustrations
appear throughout the text.
The Instructor’s Manual provides background material,
teaching strategies, and activities. Three 60-minute
audiocassettes present the articles themselves and provide
listening practice and models of speech.
